How does the metal fabrication process work?
Metal fabrication can be broadly divided into three main stages: cutting; bending and assembly.
While some companies focus on one element of the metal fabrication process, we provide a comprehensive concept to completion service.
We also offer a variety of finishing services, making us a true ‘one-stop-shop’ for all of your metal fabrication needs.
Cutting
During this first phase, the raw metal is cut into the desired shape using one of a number of techniques. Laser cutting is our most frequently used profile cutter because it offers precision, an excellent cut edge quality and short lead times.Bending
Once the sheet metal is cut it can then be manipulated and reshaped into the desired form. The metal bending and forming process is carried out using a press brake. Thanks to our array of press brakes, which includes an Amada HD 1303 Press Brake, an Amada HF 50-12T Press Brake and a Small Mecos 15T Press Brake, we can provide metal bending services to fit the specifications of our customers. The final phase of metal fabrication is assembly. It’s at this stage that the cut and bent pieces of metal are joined together to make the final fabricated item. Welding is the most common method used to fuse metal, although the exact technique will depend on the material and the end product. Knees Engineering is well-equipped to take on high volume welding contracts, with full facilities for MIG or TIG welding.Knees Engineering is proud to offer a concept to completion metal fabrication service that saves our clients valuable time and money.
Our comprehensive workshop is fully equipped with modern metal fabrication technology and machinery, which allows us to produce a wide range of custom metal parts and components to the highest standards.
From the smallest punched and formed steel brackets to large industrial fabrications such as seating systems, we can cater for projects of all sizes and specifications. We even have the capability and are CE marked to fabricate structural steel-works.
From laser cutting, bending and forming to welding and assembly, our highly skilled and experienced team can work with sheet metal in a variety of ways.
What’s more, we achieve high-quality results, while minimising lead times and costs for our customers.
What is metal fabrication?
The most common starting materials used include structural steel and sheet metal, although our team has also manufactured plastic, rubber and wooden components.
These raw materials then go through a series of processes including cutting, bending, welding, finishing and assembly to create a final metal structure. This could be anything from a bracket to hand railings or stadium seating.
Thanks to its versatility and broad range of applications, metal fabrication is used across a wide variety of industries. Some of the most popular sectors include oil and gas, seating systems, construction, automotive and agriculture. That said, the flexibility of metal fabrication means it can be used to create bespoke fabricated products to suit any industry or business’s needs.
